Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel nucleic acid molecule encoding (I) a polypeptide having the activity of a glucose oxidase (EC; or (II) a fragment of the polypeptide of (I) having the activity of a glucose oxidase and comprising at least 400 amino acids. Moreover, the invention relates to a vector encoding the nucleic acid molecule, a host cell transformed, transduced or transfected with the vector, a the protein encoded by the nucleic acid molecule, and compositions comprising said nucleic acid molecule, vector, host cell, protein or combinations thereof
